Community Service Hours
What is community service?
Community service, as we are defining it, is a voluntary action in which you--as an individual--wish to lend your time, body, and spirit, towards the betterment of the community. Community service is meant to foster the the participants' learning about larger social issues and an understanding of the reciprocal learning and service which can occur between students and community members.
What does NOT count as community service?
Any paid position, internship that you are currently a part of, course related work (i.e extra credit opportunities), or otherwise mandated service or org social. Barrio service or any service learning class does not count, that is mandated service you are getting credit for.

Why is there a community service requirement?
Latinx graduation aims to inspire graduates to continue to pursue higher education and to apply the knowledge gained for the betterment of our communities. Bettering our comunidades and continuing to serve them is core to the ceremony's beliefs and mission. For the past 50 years UCLA Latinx graduates have completed thousands of community service hours for the better of our communities! Thank you for having been a part of this change!
